He handed his saucer over to a passing waitress, smiling and placing a tenner in her hands; he assumed that would cover it. By the smile on her face, he assumed it did. “Nothing’s ever that easy,” Sara said, and he turned back to look at her again. “But trust me, even someone like you can feel better, even if it takes what feels like an eternity.”
“An eternity, huh?” He sighed. Well, she certainly had no way of knowing that that may be exactly what it could take. “Well, I certainly hope it’s not that long.”
The girl didn’t seem very happy when he announced his plans to leave, and her smile grew more forced, as he could see form the muscles in her face. No, he told himself, No, it’s fine, you’re find, you don’t need another like to ruin. “I understand.” Oh, she’s so innocent, let her live a fantastic life, a normal life, she’ll never know what’s she’s missing. “There’s no stopping that ambition, is there?” But she’s just so damn unique, how can he let a person like that go? No no, he can and he will. He will. Will… “Have fun, wherever you end up, Doctor.” Sara looked back at her ukulele, hiding disappointment with porcelain fascination.
“I – “ he started, then stopped. Just one trip. ONE. “Do you believe in the impossible?” He blurted, feeling guilty immediately. But, it was too late to take back words, wasn’t it?”

Sara would admit that she was somewhat startled by the sound of his voice. She thought that he had simply moved on, but in actuality he remained in the place he had been standing in. Sara looked back up from her instrument and toward his face. She was a bit confused, both at the reason he decided to stay and by his question. Not that she didn't have a stance on impossible things, but the question just seemed to come out of nowhere. Sara could tell that something was different with him, but she still couldn't tell what. The question was serious, she could tell that much from his expression. Deciding that she couldn't keep him waiting any longer, she gave an answer; at least it was the best one she could give him. "Well, anything is possible," she said, as if she had to assure herself this. She smiled again. "Yes, I do." Sara hoped that he wouldn't take her pause as moments of doubt, for it certainly wasn't.
Sara tried to read him while staring into his eyes, but she just couldn't this time. She was simply left to wonder what he was thinking about or if he had anything in store. She expected him to just turn and keep walking, but then again he has been a bit different than the others so far. Somehow she thought that he wouldn't just leave after returning, but then again she still didn't know much about the Doctor. Not knowing what was up ahead, she simply kept her eyes on his, waiting to see what this strange man would do next.

Sara looked startled, and the Doctor regretted speaking. She’d been ready to let go, why couldn’t he just move on for once? “Well, anything is possible,” she mused, then confirmed her implied beliefs with, “Yes, I do.” He saw her reading her – analyzing her – and wondered what she thought of him. He could appear as anyone really, with his clothes and his face and his physic paper. But sometimes he wondered, without all that, was washe, to eyes that were not his own?
He realized that he’d just been staring at him for not a long time, but long enough so that she might take his hesitation as dismissal. Oh, he wished that he hadn’t said anything. But… it’s just too fun, isn’t it? He should pass up these opportunities for companionship that so naturally and luckily – or unluckily – come to him at the right times, but he never does, and it always ruins him when it’s over. Because it will end. So it’s better to say…
“One trip.”
She probably doesn’t know what he means by this, so he continues, his voice more sheepish than the confident tone he’d used to speak his previous words. “You said you like adventures right? Come with me. One trip. That’s all. You won’t miss anything, I promise.” But if you decline, you’ll miss everything.

Sara had to admit, she was still a bit confused by his words. First there were two little ones, two of which made Sara's brow furrow. "Just one? He's speaking as if he could tackle multiple in one day!" Sure, the idea was a bit crazy, but still glorious in Sara's mind; if she could figure out a way to do it, she'd be bounding all over the earth. Whenever one adventure would end, another would start. It'd really be glorious. But alas, there were always obstacles, such as cost and pure motive. There was also planning and the like. However, his suggestion still made no sense. She had to look away for a brief moment to digest it, but still nothing. At the sound of his voice chiming in again, she had to look back up. She had to know what he meant.
He offered to take her somewhere. An adventure. Oh, she loved adventures. New experiences were something that she always strived to achieve. Maybe traveling with the Doctor would be a new experience in itself. This whole thing was rather tempting. It was mostly the mystery of it all; this man, their destination...all strange to her. Oh yes, there was that...she barely knew him. She couldn't help but think, what would her parents say? Running off with a strange man she just met off the streets! The thing was, he had that trusting quality about him. You just had to trust him, otherwise you wouldn't last very long. Sara would definitely give him that. Looking over him once again, Sara knew she could risk a little bit for him. He deserved it, at least, for being the only member of her audience. She figured it was time to return the favor.
He essentially gave her his word. They would miss nothing. What did that mean, exactly? Sara didn't know, but she was relaxed at the idea. "How do you expect me to say no?" she said, turning to grab her ukulele's case and gently placing the instrument inside. She zipped up the case and quickly grabbed a couple of pounds from her pocket, placing them on the table to cover the cost of the tea and food. After slinging the case over her shoulder, she stood herself up and shuffled over to the Doctor's side with her excited little smile. "Are we going anywhere in particular, or should I just anticipate a surprise?"

He anticipated her answer, and true bluntness told him that she would say yes, of course she would. But apprehension still strained his features with something like nervousness and insecurity, and he hated that he already felt like that, for once somebody came in – came with him – it never left until their inevitable departure. The weight of responsibility was already forming, and he hated it.
“How do you expect me to say no?” Sara asked, and for a second, between blinds, there was regret. Having a mind that worked so much faster than a humans meant that the second he blinked, he thought of so much, all that could go wrong, and every time those thoughts came back, they both killed him and brought him back to life for one horrible second.
But he was done closing his eyes for that half second, blinking that felt like forever, because Sara stood and gathered her things, walking over to stand at his side as if she had known him – had been with him – forever. He knew she wouldn’t be.
“Are we going anywhere in particular, or should I just anticipate a surprise?” Sara asked.
The Doctor shook himself of his dark thoughts and looked down at her, smiling slightly, his eyes wrinkling at the edges. “A surprise, I’d say.” He started walking towards where he had parked the TARDIS, across the road and behind the shadows of a wall, well veiled by pure, human ignorance. “Though,” he added as they crossed the busy street, “It’s not a bad surprise.”
They continued to walk the few yards until they reached their destination. “And,” he said excitedly, because he loved his part, the part where they saw it for the first time, “Here we are.” He motioned to the beautiful box, his true, faithful companion for all of time and space.

Sara followed after the Doctor, failing to hide her curiosity from her face. She wasn't entirely sure of where they were going or how they would get there, but she knew for a fact that he would get her there. Crossing the street to a shadowed area, Sara couldn't help but be a bit apprehensive, at least until she saw what was hidden in the dark. At first she stared at the structure, slightly confused, but not from what one would think. The sight of it didn't absolutely astound her because it already had done so when she first spotted the structure outside of her hotel window. Yes, there was no doubt now that this was that disappearing phone box.
Suddenly it explained so much, but Sara was still left with so many questions. It came as no surprise that a strange man like this would be the owner of the disappearing phone box, but just as well, it made her wonder just what kind of a person he was. Seriously, who was he? Sara wondered this as she stood at his side, beholding the beautifully colored box. She tilted her head slightly to face him, almost feeling that this was all completely unbelievable. "Wspaniały," she found herself saying, not noticing that she had spoken another language. It was just pure habit now, though she only did so when she was either angry or truly amazed. Realizing what she said shortly after, she explained, chuckling a bit at herself. "Old habit of mine. It means 'wonderful' in Polish." She looked directly back at the phone box, still smiling. "You're lucky, strangers usually only hear another language from me if I'm angry."
She felt the need to move in just a bit closer. Sara assumed it was her curiosity again. She took one more step, allowing herself to be close enough to touch the box. She was a bit hesitant, mostly because this was so much to take in. But still, she slowly reached out her hand and - gently - touched the box. She took a deep breath, unsure if it would stop her heart right then and there. She seemed alright, but she could still sense that there would be more. "So," she thought, "what else could this disappearing phone box do?" Sara turned herself around, facing the Doctor again. "I've seen this before," she said, deciding that she would in fact tell him. "A man went inside, at least I'm sure it was a man..." Anything's possible. She kept that idea in mind. "Then it just...disappeared! I couldn't think of anything that could explain something like that. But I'm pretty sure you're the explanation."
