Describe Their Appearance Size doesn't matter, at least not in Kate's world. She may be just a few inches over five feet but, don't count her out. Kate is tough as nails, strong in both body and mind. Five years in the LAPD (two of which were spent as a SWAT officer) has sharpened her hand eye cordination and toned her muscles. Kate is fit; muscular, lean, and agile. If not for her slender, curved figure, and obvious feminine attributes, she'd be mistaken for just another guy on the force. Hell, so often in uniform she is.
Her dark brown hair is often pulled back into a pony tail or a braid to keep it from getting in the way. However, wisps of hair still seem to fall into her face. Her eyes appear dark and disinterested but, if you look closely you'll see that little spark of mischief in them. Her lips usually contort into a knowing smile, flashing her pearly whites for the world to see.
Personality
In General Kate has always been considered one of the guys. It might have something to do with her physical strength but, also her emotional strength. She's a rock under pressure. She rose up quickly in the ranks of the LAPD because she disregarded all the voices telling her that she would never be good enough and that the police department was a boy's club. But, she's got a confidence that is unshakeable and a determination that is so fierce she'll do whatever it takes to succeed.
Sanchez is the type of person that once she sets her mind to something she is going to do it. She's maticulous and tactical so, she takes her time before jumping into things. She's highly logical, having been trained by the U.S. for high pressure situations (ie. hostage negotiations, extraction operations, etc). However, her attention to detail doesn't make her inept in social situations. Kate knows how to let loose and have a good time. She's got a wicked sense of humor and can handle her alcohol better than most of her squad. She can be sarcastic, flirty, and hell, even a little sexy.
Although, she doesn't consider herself sexy by any means, there is no denying that she's got a little something-something going on. While she is usually in excercise clothes, tactical gear, or a simple jean and t-shirt combo, Kate can clean up quite nicely. It doesn't happen often but, at the last LAPD benefit she got quite a few stares. Actually, it took most of them half the night to realize that she was Officer Sanchez and not some benefactor's wife. It's hard to recognize her without a little dirt smeared across her face.
She's a free spirit that just so happens to have extremely keen discipline. It's an odd combination but, Kate handles it quite well. While she is on duty there is nothing but the mission and her orders but, after hours she's all about spontineity and trying new things. She's an adventurer. She rock climbs, sky dives, snowboards, and is skilled at handling an assortment of weaponry. Guns, bows, staffs, knifes... Kate is quite the fighter.
Kate's work relationships are quite strong, she's a team player, a great listener, and exceptionally loyal. However, away from the office (the field, the range, etc) Kate is a whole different animal. She doesn't trust easily which makes romantic relationships rather difficult. She's got a rough outer shell that's pretty damn hard to crack. Although, she is amiable and friendly, she doesn't often reveal private details about herself or her past. Kate doesn't covet sex like other people do; just, don't expect her to gush out the words "I love you" when you're lying post-deed nestled beneath the covers... or on top of them. Also, cuddling is a rarity so count yourself lucky if she nuzzles in next to you.
Kate doesn't like to fail, in fact, she's got a terrible fear of failing. Growing up there was a lot of external stress for her to succeed. Her parents grew up poor and worked their way into a comfortable upper-middle class life. They had plenty of expectations for their daughter; all of which she met someway or another. She graduated high school with honors and played a different sport each season. Her summers were filled with internships and athletic training. She was accepted to all of the colleges that she applied to including some Ivy Leagues. But, for Kate, there was something more that she wanted to do. Kate wants to make those around her proud. And for the most part, she feels that she has accomplished that with her parents.
Officer Sanchez is by the book. She's got a no tolerance policy for law breakers. It's what makes her such a good SWAT Officer. But, the blinders can sometimes come up when she's working a case. She will literally do everything in her power to bring criminals to justice. She puts in 140% in everything she does for the LAPD and can often loose track of time, not sleep, forget to eat, and get a little too immersed. Kate's got to learn to have a work life and a personal life; she just hasn't quite gotten there yet.
Attitude Toward... the supernatural.
Kate has seen things that no one would believe. The everyday throws so many curve balls her way that it's impossible to believe that things aren't possible. While Sanchez isn't a believer in ghosts she does have a hope that there is life among the stars. She thinks it's arrogant to believe that humanity is the only life force out there. Kate is incredible under pressure, so if something supernatural were to threaten her she'd deal with it first before even thinking about freaking out. Only afterwards would she consider the nature of the threat.
Attitude Toward... danger.
Attitude Toward... excuses.
Excuses are trouble. The moment you start sputtering one is the moment just before Sanchez is about to deck you. In her line of work excuses are the most dangerous thing a person can have. They mean that a job wasn't done or that a job was done poorly. Excuses can be the difference between life and death. Sanchez is all about honesty, integrity, and efficiency. She doesn't want to hear that you didn't have enough time, that the conditions weren't right, or that you weren't thinking. There is never enough time. The conditions are never right. And you should always be thinking. One missed step in an operation is the difference between success and failure. Between bringing a man home in the passenger seat or in the trunk in a body bag.
Attitude Toward... forced leave.
All The Little Things

She didn’t cry. The nurse rushed to Julia’s side, and pressed a gloved finger to baby Katherine’s neck. She pulled back, shocked that her pulse was strong and her dark eyes were blinking back at her unfazed. Baby Kate was more than breathing; she was smi
